How to Start Saving Money-You’ll Love These
So, you’ve decided to start saving? Such a smart idea.
There’s more that you can do than saving away in a moonjar.
Putting away money gives you peace of mind and is great for emergency preparedness.
Think about all those little things that happen in life that result in unexpected expenses: car repairs, medical bills, unexpected travel, etc. It’s nice to have your savings fund in place to help you through those times.
Here are some awesome ways for how to start saving money starting today!
Pay Yourself First
When you get paid, set automatic deposits to your savings account so money get’s transferred automatically, straight from your paycheck. Most employers offer this option. It’s great because you never see the money, you’ll never have to manage it, which makes it super easy to start saving on autopilot!
Use Less Energy
Using less energy results in lower electricity bills, smaller water bills, etc. That savings can go straight to your savings account. Here are some ways to do it:
- Unplug appliances when not in use
- Keep the thermostat warmer when you’re not home
- Set a timer for your shower
- Use cold water when washing clothes and hang your clothes outside on a line, instead of using the dryer
- Turn off lights when you leave a room
- Set a sleep timer on the TV so you don’t keep it running all night when you fall asleep
Do ALL of these, if you can. They really make a big difference. I lowered my electric bill by over $100 by implementing a few of these strategies!
Get Home Repairs Fixed Fast
You know when something breaks down in your home. It’s such a pain sometimes to address that issue. You might procrastinate, put it off. Eventually you’ll have to fix it, so why not do it now? This is especially true for toilet repair.
If you haven’t heard this, you’ve now heard it from me.
If your toilet is EVER broken, get it fixed fast! I had 2 toilet repairs, in 2 different homes in the last year. Unfortunately, I procrastinated on both!
The result? The first repair resulted in the toilet running endlessly unless we physically turned off the water to the toilet. We did this for a while, before the repair, but not consistently. So what happens when the water runs all day and night. Your water bill balloons up!
A regular water bill for us, is around $35. The water bill with a broken toilet? Over $100. Jaw drop.
The second repair involved a few different small fixes, that involved a running toilet without a special trick that only mom (that’s me) happened to do, despite teaching the trick to everyone in the household. The water bill was almost $200!
Moral of the story? Don’t put off home repairs. It pays (literally) , to fix those issues quickly.
